Localising the Global Goals
On Wednesday 21st July the APPG, in partnership with the UN Global Compact Network UK, Bristol City Office, and the Foundation for Democracy and Sustainable Development, are hosting a virtual event to convene high-level representatives from government, parliament, business, and civil society to discuss the importance of local leadership and comprehensive action to achieve sustainable development and leave no one behind.
The role of local government, local partnerships, and local action has never been more important. At a time when the country is looking to build back from the Covid-19 pandemic, local leadership will be critical to shaping the future of this country and ensuring that we can restore the economy, tackle climate change, level up and address the extreme inequalities that this crisis has revealed.
In part one of the event, guest speakers will share case studies of the ways towns, cities, and broader regions in the UK have used the SDGs as a framework in policy and decision-making processes. In part two, participants will have an opportunity to network in small, focussed groups to discuss the practical application of the case studies and explore what needs to happen next for local action to be successful for the future. This event is part of our two-day Responsible Business and SDGs Summit. To see the full programme please visit this page.
